Testimonials

State Representative John Ward

District 10A

"I am honored to write this short testimonial about the important, life-saving/changing work the Mid-MN Women's Center in Brainerd does in our area.

I first became familiar with this agency when I was teaching my Service Learning class in our school district. The Women's Center became one of my most popular sites for my students to volunteer at. My students and I got to witness firsthand the positive and life changing impact this agency and its staff made on the women and children who had nowhere else to turn, and depended on them to make the difference in their lives.

So many women and children have had their lives turned around due to the work, support and advocacy of the Women's Center facility and their staff. Sadly, domestic violence continues to be an issue that we need to deal with but with organizations like our Women's Center, children and women find hope and a brighter future out of terrible situations. The Alex and Brandon Safety Center along with the Sexual Assault Services program working in collaboration with the Women's Center have all served our area residents in times of the most horrific needs with dignity, respect and promise for a better future ahead. We are very fortunate to have these programs available in our area and must do all we can to make sure they are also here in the future."

Senator Carrie Ruud

"I first became acquainted with the Women’s Center around the time of the Alex and Brandon tragedy. I remember how it shook our whole community, unimaginable in our own backyard.

I will never forget the first small breakfast I attended where Angie told her story, I was forever moved! I took a tour through the old women’s shelter building and while I was glad there was a safe place for women to go I was thrilled that they would be moving into the new facility.

The Alex and Brandon and Women’s Centers did not just happen, it took thousands of hours of hard work by dedicated people. I have been fortunate to meet many of them and see the fruits of their labors. Domestic abuse/violence continues to be far too prevalent in our society but the continued advocacy by staff and volunteers does makea difference. The trips to the state capital really help to keep the issue in the forefront and helps legislators have a better understanding of the day to day hardships families face. When I hear the testimonies of families in our community that have been helped by the Women’s Center I think of the Center helping women to first be safe, then successful, not an easy journey but one so rewarding.

My Thanks and admiration for all you do."

"Over the past 20 years. I have had a very close professional, as well as personal, relationship with the Mid-Minnesota Women's Center.

I have had the pleasure of playing Santa for the Center over the last 11 years, during the Christmas Holiday. I have also been a committee member of "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" fundraiser. My experience with the center, whether it was in a volunteer capacity or during professional contact, is that it has always been a positive and compassionate environment.

It has been honor and will continue to be an honor to know and work with the Women's Center."
